Being the oldest purebred dog registry in the United States, the American Kennel Club registers the top breeds. When registering your dog this will create a lineage for them gaining information about their bloodline, but where do you start?
What is the first step in registering my dog? The first thing you’ll need to be sure of is if the parents of your puppy are registered and if the litter your puppy came from is registered. This will allow you to be able to obtain an individual application to register your dog.
How can I register my dog? If your dog came with papers from the breeder, then you’ll need to get an FFS form. This form should come from the breeder if the breeder registered the litter. You’ll submit the form with the correct fee amount.
How much does it cost to register? If your dog’s litter was registered it cost $34.99 to register them if your applying for only the basic package. Costs can vary depending on if you get more than the basic package.
Can I transfer ownership of my dog? Yes! You can transfer the dog to a different owner and it’s been made simple online at the AKC website.
What is a pedigree? A pedigree is a printed or electronic document that outlines your dog’s lineage and contains other important information about the ancestors of your dog.
