Default strange bug bite

This really weird looking fly type of bug bit my Henry!

It's about half that size now, but it's weird. Not like a normal bug bite. It itches him a little, but he seems to be alright. Gonna hafta keep and eye on it!

Did you give him a benadryl? - I keep piriton (same as benadryl) in the med cupboard because Arbie had bad reaction to a bee sting once and the vet said it's ok to give if I think Arbie or Ella may have got an allergic reaction to anything. That keeps my mind at rest especially as we have loads of bees here now. I've no idea what the bug could be that got Henry but prayers he's ok!

Yeah, I gave him a benadryl. It's in such an odd place on his back, that he can't really scratch at it, so that's good. He is doing a lot of rolling around on his back trying to scratch it that way. Cutie!

I'm assuming the bug was some variant of a biting fly. It sounded like a buzz saw when it was buzzing around. I saw it land on Henry's back, but I didn't think it was actually biting him! And the bump didn't show up right away. So that's why I'm concerned.

poor henry. i hate biting flies. they used to have horse flies up north really bad and you couldn't enjoy the beach when they were around.

if i remember correctly (it's been about 40 yrs!) they bite like hell and do swell.

thank god you saw it bite him or you'd be on a lump watch

Well the bump was all but gone yesterday. Henry went out to go potty, came back in and it was all swollen up again! So I'll be calling the vet today and see what is going on. Bug bites are not supposed to go away and come back!

Grammie took the words right out of my mouth, horse flies! I hate those things! They are huge and hurt like holy heck! Poor Henry, I hope it goes away soon

Vet said it was infected and the heat was aggravating it. So some steroid/antibiotic spray and an antibiotic pill. He said that should take care of it.
