good boy shane. doing better. what does your husband have against the crate? if i couldn't do a crate, i'd clear a room and pad the walls so he won't hurt himself. gawd i don't know what i'd do really! thor's head tremors freak me out bad enough as it is. i can't wait grampie out. he'll get all pissy when i put him on ignore, and like clock work after 1/2 a day, he can't take it any more (pussy!) and he'll 'announce' himself at my door way with "r u mad or something?" LOLOL none of the 'babies' can take it when grammie ignores them

I don't really have to ignore him either,LOL, but.... he'll start asking...what..what???...LOL..I just wait...he figures it out... I'm not sure why he doesn't want the crate, it is huge and our place is kinda small...but we can make it fit...and Shane absolutely HATES the crate...but he can get used to it again.... |

he's a leo, what can i say ![]() tracy that is so sweet of you. i think an xpen would take up even more space than a crate though. at least get shane used to it for emergencies christie. we have our crate in front of the unused fireplace. floor space is like lack of closet space in this old house, so i know the drill trying to find space

So if it was me Christie I'd try to get Shane used to the crate. Arbie and Ella are both fed in their crates - and they love their crates. I feed them both in their crates. This came about because Arbie was running around as a pup too much after eating so my vet recommended a crate to keep him calm to help prevent bloat. Since then I fed him in his crate then he would sleep for a couple of hours rather than try to play - I started it with Ella when I brought her home. Now they see the crate as rest and food - nothing negative. I also use their crates for time out but it doesn't seem to bother them - it's still a place of safety to them.

tracy they put Shane on Phenobarbital, 1gram twice a day. I'm giving it to him just as you suggested, exactly 12 hours apart. 9 and 9 works great for us. I'll be changing it to 6 and 6 when I go back to work, but right now I don't get up that early..... It seems to have doubled his appetite, I know tht is one of the side effects...but the boy seems to be STARVING! I've got hiim on TOTW salmon. He loves it thank goodness. Thank you for the offer of the xpen, I have one, and yep he just jumped it even when we first got him, I know they come in different heights, but.. I'm dragging the crate back out (DH and I will have to 'discuss' it, but I'm getting it back out), and finding those pads that stephanie said she has, and waiting to hear about the bumpers. I think DH believes Shane is safer out of the crate if he were to have a seizure when we're not here... |

Phenobarbs a good starting point - let me know if they start to up the dose more because you may need to put Shane Shane on a liver supplement to cope with it. Also we can discuss other options - e.g potassium bromide to work with the phenobarb. As for the starving - you can supplement food with green beans and all kinds of veggies jiust to let him think he's eating more but green beans are a filler and you can give him lots of those with his meal. frozen or fresh are fine.. No to leaving him out of the crate. - tell hubby I'm here 24/7 with arbie and it's still better for Arbie to be crated. They can cause themselves a lot of harm when out of the crate when they are pacing after seizures - unless you can pad out the whole room and have cushioned floors I would suggest crate training again and get the pads stephanie mentioned.

Thanks Tracy I will definately let you know if meds change. I am working on Hubby...he can be very stubborn, but I know he wants what's best for shane, so I'm going to share with him what you've all said. Thanks for everyone's support. I don't know what I'd do right now without you. THANKS

Well, I just spoke to Gary at Primo Pads regarding the bumpers for the kennels. He was super nice. He just asked me to email him the measurements and he will give me a price for the bumpers! What an awesome company! I will let you all know when I get them. I highly, highly recommend Primo Pads!

Thank you Stephanie. Good news, Hubby FINALLY, Reluctantly agreed to getting the crate back out for Shane. I will be getting the primo pads Stephanie, please continue to update us with those bumpers. Shane seems to be doing well with the meds. His appetite is returning to normal...and Tracy he HATES canned green beans..LOL...maybe he'd eat fresh ones if I had them...but gonna have to find something else to let him snack on. |

Sorry. I was sick all week last week. Did not even get out of bed until Saturday. I will be measuring the kennel tonight to get his estimate and will probably go ahead and order them. I will let you know what he says. If they are not too much, I would order them together if you could. You save on shipping!
