Default Panic or not!

Tank ate a toad! He is a little foamy at the mouth, I was able to get the dead toad before he swallowed him! Should I be worried????

This is par for the course with him. Lets see yesterday it was a beach ball, a pair of goggles, a few water bottles, there was something else but I cant remember-oh wait yes, the pool vacuum. About two weeks ago he had a snake in his mouth and this is like the third toad he has went after. I have never actually caught him with a toad in his mouth before and he is foamy.

Here I found this online
Symptoms of Toad Toxicity

Some types of toads secrete a substance that can cause oral irritation but is not toxic. Dogs will likely salivate or foam at the mouth after tasting any toad. However, symptoms of toad toxicity may include:
  • Foaming at the mouth and oral irritation
  • Head shaking
  • Bright red gums
  • Vomiting
  • Lethargy
  • Confusion
  • In-coordination
  • Respiratory distress
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Seizures
  • Collapse
  • Abnormal heart rhythms
Diagnosis and Treatment

If a dog shows evidence of having eaten a toad or has been seen licking a toad, the immediate thing to do is prevent more toxins being absorbed by thoroughly wiping out the dog’s mouth with a wet cloth or thoroughly rinsing the dog’s mouth from the side with a water hose, making sure water does not go down the throat or nose. Then get the dog to a veterinarian as quickly as possible so that supportive measures can be administered. Untreated toad poisoning can be deadly.
There is no test to detect the toad toxin but symptoms and an EKG showing abnormal heart rhythms help the veterinarian diagnose toad poisoning. There is no specific treatment for the venom, but supportive measures can save the dog’s life. The pet may be hospitalized with intravenous fluids, medication to stabilize abnormal heart rhythms, and treatment for fever, stress, and pain.

I found some of the same info as above, thank you It looks to be that we do not have any poisonious toads/frogs here in WV however the toad he did get will irritate his mouth and may cause him to vomit. I followed the instructions, washed his mouth out and gave him some peanut butter. Lets hope he doesnt yack all over the place in the next few hours!!

Tanky Panky better be glad he is cute

Well I hope he is ok and doesn't vomit everywhere. Koko ate a lighter this morning. She's been fine all day. I was a little concerned about the lighter fluid but she is being her normal self.

omg lmao at tank!! what a goober!! he's a little hellion lately isn't he scare the hell out of mama why don't you tank?!

i can't believe all the crap he's eaten and lighters? omg I would freak out bad.

thor's done the foamy mouth thing with frogs. i remember researching it a couple years ago. i don't remember for sure, but i think some of the symptoms may take a day or 2 to show up? i wish i could remember! just keep a watch on him.

i found a snake skin in the yard and 2 baby snakes on my back porch last week. and a varmint HOLE by the porch. all i kept thinking was 'den' under my porch lol. i have snake and tornado dreams all the time .

i'm more afraid that the babies will not let up if there is a snake out there. adam bb gunned down a squirrel the other day (dumb ass - there's more where that one came from ) and rather than kill it, he injured it enough to get it to fall off the fence into the yard about the same time i was heading out with the dogs. they were ON that poor squirrel in a split second.

they didn't get him b/c paul and adam were out there, but it could have gotten really ugly. vetty and skids will stalk squirrels in the tree all day long, so you KNOW those two were freaking out with joy over the prize in the yard

i told adam to just ping the squirrels in the butt so they can go warn their friends not to come in our yard. what's the point of killing them? better they spread the word with some sore butts

snakes, spiders and mice i want dead! anything else is too sad unless you plan to eat it.
