Default Apple-Cheese-Celery-Carrot Cookies

i made a 2nd batch tonight, because the babies and neighbors babies ate my last batch in a week. they love them.

I don't have any pics to do a pictorial, but they are really easy to make and you can wing it easily.
  • 2 apples cored and cut up
  • 1 can of low fat/salt chix broth
  • 2 eggs (sometimes i leave the shell of one of the eggs)
  • about an inch of white cheddar cheese 16 oz brick... maybe 1.5" ? (sorry i didn't measure) = it's enough to give the flavor of cheese without a lot of fat
  • 1 celery stalk cut up
  • 6 baby carrots
  • sprinkle parsley if you have it
Blend in blender or food processor to a mush. it's still pretty watery from the can of chix broth, but all the veggies and fruit are pulverized.

throw in large pot ....

Add flour or flour and oats if you prefer until tacky like pizza dough

take 1/2 the batter and put on floured counter and start kneading in more flour to get rid of the stickiness. i usually knead it a few times, pull and stretch and add more flour and knead some more.....

then flour up my hands and knead it some more as i roll about a heaping tsp in my hand and flatten.

you could roll the dough out and use cookie cutters. whatever is easier for you. this was a double recipe compared to my first batch and it made 3 fully loaded airbake pans.

Bake at 425 for about 10 mins to brown and then kick it back to 325 for another 20-25 mins, or vice versa (brown at the end).

when done they'll be a hint of nutty brown on the bottom and top. check them by breaking one open.... if it's moist but not doughy, you're good to go. these cookies continue to harden once out of the oven, because they hold a LOT of heat.

as with all my cookies, i ziploc gallon bag and freeze, taking out a couple days worth at a time.

your babies will love them

i made a batch of liver treats tonight too. you can see the apple cookies in the bag. nothing fancy - just hand rolled. they are actually pretty thin when i roll them out, but they pump up like oyster crackers. crunchy on the outside and soft enough to easily break on the inside.

will see how long this batch lasts lol. i know too many dogs in town

when i go down to tx some time this year to see hulk and storm and tara's clan, i plan to make about a dozen ziploc bags with a variety of treats, so hit me up then moxie's mom and i'll mail you some.

all my recipes are easy for even a non-baker (me too). not using baking powder and the usual ppl ingredients, there's really nothing to mess up. just get cookie consistency and keep them in the oven till cooked and that's about all you need to do lol.

andrea - these apple cookies are ppl edible i take a bite of them, because they remind me of oyster crackers and i love those.

my homeopathic vet that has all food grade kibble and treats at his practice, always samples my treats lol. eww - liver? ewww!

skids has been eating the liver treats with oats and no ear flapping or belly dragging on the carpet, so she's not allergic to oats. i'm SO relieved, because that's my main cookie hold together ingredient

i tried baking liver strips one time and those were a shoe leather disaster, so i need to use other ingredients. my mashed potatoes 'flour' was a watery disaster too. when frozen and thawed you could squeeze the water out of the last batch lol. i'll try them again only slow cook them and try to get them brittle and see if that's a go.

if you decide to use mashed potatoes (instant) in lieu of flour or oats, you can just throw the dry potato flakes in the batter. i'll try that next time. i put about a cup and 1/2 of flakes in their liver cookies last night and just a little oats, because i was worried about skids. they came out great. precooked potatoes hold too much moisture.

i know, even if i'm in a hurry, and it's hard to bring myself to buy store bought treats again. a few times i bought mother hubbards treats at my vet after a day of volunteering there, and the babies don't even like the good stuff lol.

we quit buying innova or canidae canned when we started pressure cooking our own canned dog food, and we still grind raw chix for their breakfast. it's always a relief to know what's going into their bodies and be able to adjust ingredients for their health needs, buy doing it ourselves.

i went to see my friend today with the 7 frenchies and a BT. my vet has about 6 dogs at his house where i go visit a rescue there.. all the dogs i've adopted on my walks are expecting treats when they see me now my neighbors pit and another dog just moved in next to him. a bunch of shitz and yorkies and a husky across the street. it's getting harder and harder to keep up!!

I only just noticed this - now this is one cookie Arbie can have. I just got to find a gluten free flour and we'll be set.
